Before The Appointment

Making Your Appointment

To set up an appointment for an abortion, call Women's Health Horizons at +27 73 713 5651 , or email,, We can usually schedule you within two to three days of your call. However, same day appointments are available.

We will need to know when the first day of your last menstrual period was. You are welcome to call us with any questions you may have prior to actually scheduling your appointment.

It is important to arrange your schedule to allow for a minimum of 2-3 hours in the clinic. Additional time may be required depending on the clinic status the day of your appointment. It takes time to go through all of the steps necessary to ensure that you receive the safest and most complete care before, during and after the abortion. You will also be asked not to eat or drink 4 hours before your appointment.

If you take medication on a regular basis, you may take your medication that day. It is always a good idea to wear loose fitting comfortable clothes the day of your appointment.

Parental consent and Notification laws

If you are under 18, your state may require one or both of your parents to give permission for your abortion or be told of your decision prior to the abortion. In most states with these requirements:

  • You can ask a judge to excuse you from getting permission or telling your parent or guardian. (This is called a "judicial bypass.")
  • A legal guardian can give permission or be notified in place of a parent.
  • If you meet legal rules showing that you are independent of the care and control of your parents or a guardian, you do not need to get their permission or notify them.
  • In some states, you can be excused from involving a parent without going to a judge if you are the victim of abuse or neglect and you or your doctor report this to the appropriate authorities.
  • To find out more about the laws in your state and the judicial bypass option, contact your local Planned Parenthood health center.

We hope that the information on our website answers most if not all of your questions. Please feel free to call and speak with one of our staff members if you should have any questions that cannot be answered for you on our website.
